About

We exist because football deserves better writing.

Why we started

Pitchline began as a small group of football writers convinced that the modern game deserved coverage that took the sport, the tactics and the human stories equally seriously. We launched ahead of the current World Cup to give global readers a place to follow the tournament that did not chase clicks or shortcut analysis for volume. Every article on the site is written, edited and fact-checked by our editorial team, and we publish only when we have something genuine to say.

What we cover

Our beat is the World Cup and the global football calendar that surrounds it. We publish match reports, tactical breakdowns, player profiles, team analyses, long-form histories and cultural features. We are interested in international football, the continental tournaments, the leagues that develop the players who reach the World Cup stage, and the human stories that connect supporters across borders.

Our editorial standard

Every article is original and written specifically for Pitchline. We do not republish wire copy, we do not auto-generate text, and we do not publish opinion as analysis. When we make a tactical claim, we back it up with the patterns we have observed. When we profile a player, we have watched their recent matches in full. Our writers come from backgrounds in sports journalism, coaching and academic football research.

Independence

Pitchline is editorially independent. We are not owned by, affiliated with or paid for by any club, federation, broadcaster or governing body. Our coverage of the World Cup, the teams competing in it and the players involved is shaped by our editorial judgement alone. We believe this independence is essential to the kind of writing we want to produce.
